Charities of Misson

The Town Estates

The Town Estate Charity was founded in 1762  as part of the 'Misson Enclosure Award'. A parcel of land known as Line Bank was left out of the new Enclosure for the purpose of digging soil to repair the river banks. The rents were to be used for the repair of public bridges, banks and drains.

In 1887 part of the income was to used to support the village school. Later in 1897 on the establishment of Misson Parish council, the Parish Council became Trustee. In 1908 the whole of the endowment  was set aside for educational purposes.

In 1969 it was decided that the assets of the School Charity should be available for the Church of England schools within the Diocese of Southwell but the assets of gravel, bridges and roads remained for local purposes.

On the 18th July 2000 the Trust Deed was further amended, 'the object of the charity is the general benefit of the inhabitants of the area of benefit in such charitable ways as the trustee thinks fit'. The council continues to be trustee of the charity.

The charity wishes to hear from any  person or group resident in the parish who, through need wishes to apply for financial assistance. The trustees have not prescribed for what purpose a grant may be made but it should not be available in duplication of other means of support, such as government grants and grants made by other charities or other bodies. Applications for a grant should be made to the; Secretary, Town Estates, 3 Spring Gardens, Bawtry, DN10 6BQ.

The Trustees wish to expand their support of the community. The charity welcomes financial help from organisations and individuals by donation or bequest.

Misson Community Association

The association is responsible for the day to management and care of the Community Centre, Vicar Lane. Funds are raised by rents from the Hall and rooms and also from various events held throughout the year. The annual 'Duck Race' raises in excess of £1,000 in proceeds towards the associations work.
