Parish Clerk The Parish Clerk is an employee of the Parish Council and in the modern world is required to be knowledgeable and skilled in the affairs of local government. To this end, while there is no formal qualification, NALC provide courses and publications for the guidance and training of clerks. Misson Parish Council supports its clerk in attendance at these courses and also in providing the clerk with any other resources which may be prescribed by Government from time to time. The Clerk does not vote or take part in debates and will only give advice on matters of fact. The Parish Clerk manages the every day business of the council and is responsible for drawing up the agenda for meetings of council and takes minutes at those meetings. You may if you so wish write to the clerk and request that a particular issue be brought to the attention of the council but you must include all the facts and why you consider it is important that it is considered by the council. The Clerk is charged with ensuring that the council affairs are conducted in accordance with the law. The clerk will advise the Chairman on matters arising but will seek and take advice from the councils appointed solicitor and other professional experts as and when it is required. It is the responsibility of the Clerk to enact the decisions of the Council. Official contact with other bodies and the progress of decisions is undertaken by the clerk.
