The Chairman The chairman is proposed, seconded and elected each year by the other Councillors with a show of hands. The chairman does not always vote at meetings but will always do so should a deciding vote be required. The main purpose of the Chairman is to manage the meetings in accordance with the set agenda and ensure that where possible all the facts and arguments are put to council for discussion on any matter subject to the debate. The Chairman has the right to vote together with the other members of the council but in the event that a casting vote is required the chairman is allowed a second casting vote. Of cause their are many other jobs to do prior to meetings. The Chairman will regularly meet with parishioners, attend District Council meetings and with other groups. The Chairman will also meet or correspond with the clerk to prioritize the items for agenda for each meeting thus ensuring that the current issues are discussed and considered by the council. The Chairman will each month sign the minutes in open public meeting once they are approved by the council, thus confirming the minutes as a true record of what has taken place and the decisions made.
